INTERIOR DESIGNING
Interior Designing is planning and executing interior spaces/landscapes so as to use the interior spaces more

Design Theory
Understanding the basic elements and principles of Design which forms the bedrock of understanding and creating
endearing interiors. Application of this understanding. This includes Elements of Design, Principles of Design and
Spatial Organisation.

Design Process and Space Planning
This is an extension and application of Design Theory where ones learns the steps involved in designing and
planning spaces by understanding the space, it’s function, utility etc.

Design Considerations
Apart from the site conditions and client requirements there are other design considerations like…..Interior Design
Styles (includes brief history), climatological and environmental influences, ecological responsibility, etc.

Drafting and Drawing Tools
We use words to communicate thoughts and ideas. How to communicate ones ideas of design? We do it by
drafting our ideas into drawings using specific instruments. Learning to use these instruments to effectively
communicate through drawings. This is manual.
This includes drafting basic 2D and 3D drawings, Sketching, Drawing Perspectives, rendering, presenting
completed designs, labelling, dimensioning, scaling, understanding measurements, etc.

Anthropometrics and Ergonomics
This is about learning Human scale and comfort….as most of the interiors are designed for human use and
comfort.

Building Materials
Learning about materials used for construction, both in interiors and Architecture. Understanding their application
and sustainability. Studying the materials trends. Sourcing of materials and their pricing.

Building Construction
Understanding and learning the methods and technology of implementing and executing the design to make it
reality……Like construction of wall/partitiom walls using different materials and different methods, false ceilings,
staircases, doors, windows, etc.
Here interiors finishes like paints, wall papers, window dressings, flooring, carpets are also discussed.

competitions, etc.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT:
The students have to design a Residence for a Client (real or Imaginary) and present it to an internal Jury in the
form of an internal Viva
COMMERCIAL PROJECT:
The Students have to design and present a commercial Project to an internal Jury in the form of an internal Viva
Viva
Viva is finally conducted by an external jury, before the certificates are handed over to the students at a
Graduation Ceremony.
